Political activism

Many young Americans born in the post-Civil Rights era, grew up surrounded by the lyrics and style of the Hip Hop genre. Most in that generation never had direct experience with de facto segregation, yet we continue to live in a world of racially nuanced code words and staggering racial and class disparities in areas like health, education, and criminal justice.

While many of that generation correctly interpret these outcomes as lasting forms of discrimination, the fact remains that a significant number have not made the connection on how to leverage their political power to build upon the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and create positive change.
